Logos are basic logical sentences. The senses give logic and credibility
so that you may apply logical reasoning in your writing. This is so the person
who is reading what you've wrote could obviously make a logical conclusion as
to what you're trying to convey in the writing. For example: Plants omit oxygen
in the air. Humans breathe in oxygen from the air.
Pathos provides an emotional appeal in the paragraph. This is
so the person reading the paragraph can be emotionally connected with the
story. For example I have received lots of plants in my home as gifts
from family when I had a car accident. Each plant reminds me of how much my
family cares about me. Plants are so beautiful and keep me healthy
too.
Ethos Show the credibility of the characters you're talking about
and the actual events. This happens by creating a sentence or paragraph
this states the facts about that person and or events happening in and around
that person.
For example I used to be an EMT. I received my certification
as an EMT-D in 1991. Being licensed has an EMT-D I was certified in
defibrillation along with CPR.
Incorporating Logos, Pathos and Ethos in your writing create full
paragraphs with logic, emotion, facts and credibility. You will have a
well-rounded story that gives every reader interest. With that said there are
times when you do not want to have emotion in your writing. There will be
situations where you do not need logic in your story. Knowing about these
styles of writing will be helpful in many stories that we write in the future.
Cyndy, good examples of each concept. In response to your last paragraph, I think every statement has some logos, pathos, and ethos, although a given statement might emphasize or rely on one of them more than the others.
ReplyDeleteCyndy,
ReplyDeleteI really liked reading your examples of logos, pathos, and ethos. They made the definitions more clear. You really made logos, pathos, and ethos really easy to understand. The textbook explanations confused me somewhat, but your explanations really cleared it up. I believe that logos, pathos, and ethos are important to all types of writing. Nice job!
